Advent

WHAT IS ADVENT?

The great promise of the Old Testament is the coming of Israel’s long-awaited Messiah. For thousands of years, God’s people anticipated the fulfillment of that promise, which Christians today celebrate each year at Christmas—the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The season leading up to Christmas has traditionally been referred to as Advent. Derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming,” Advent is the season in which Christians celebrate the first coming of Jesus Christ to earth and anxiously anticipate His promised second coming in the last days. The Advent season officially begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and is celebrated through Christmas Eve. Since Christmas falls on different days each year, Advent can range in length from 22–28 days.

2021 Resources

Every year during the Advent Season, our pastors have a series of recommended resources. This year's resources include a Daily Devotional Book written by David Mathis titled "The Christmas We Didn't Expect." This book is available for purchase in the Resource Center. To learn more about the book, click here

We also have an Advent Daily Bible Reading Plan. This plan, written by Worship Pastor John Stegemerten, is available for pick up in the Worship Center Lobby or for download HERE. The plan takes you from Genesis to Revelation in 29 days with a focus on the promise and coming of Christ.
